It’s a repository for software serial numbers, so it allows me to install other apps, those not purchased from the Mac App Store. The tools each use different approaches to search.But 1Password does a lot more. Search predicates and controls can vary in each of these contexts. When I search inside DevonThink for a document with a certain content I get let’s say 233 hits, when I do the same search in DevonExpress I get 186 and when searching in Spotlight I get 3. (Thanks for not posting massive screenshots – they are impossible to read and not helpful in most cases.) Note: Rebuilding the Spotlight index can become necessary after copying a database from one computer to another or after using a third-party utility like DevonSync. You may need to rebuild the Spotlight index to activate this function.

DEVONthink Pro Office needs to be installed on the machine viewing the Spotlight results.

Supported are text and rich text (RTF and RTFD), image, movie, audio, PDF, HTML, XML, and web archive files. Starting with version 2.0.6, DEVONthink Pro Office adds information to the Spotlight metadata that makes it possible to preview many file types directly from the Spotlight results window. If this option is checked, the Finder displays the generic names of the metadata cache files instead of the name of the referenced document.

When viewing Spotlight results in a window, make sure to have the Show all file extensions option in Finder’s Preferences, Advanced tab unchecked. If you ever feel that this folder is out-of-sync with the database, click Rebuild to recreate this folder from scratch. Checking this option lets DEVONthink Pro Office create a folder in “~/Library/Cache/Metadata” that Spotlight uses for accessing the documents in the database.

To be honest, I’m not familiar with Devonthink and I don’t know how its database is structured, but possibly it works when you add the database and adjust the options for the indexing rule to the Search Scope: Search all Subfolders and enable ‘Search file package contents’.Ĭreate Spotlight Index: Check to make this database available to Spotlight. Seems that neither Spotlight or Launchbar will acknowledge the index that Devonthink creates.īut again, not a big deal - I have a feeling that it is much smarter to search WITHIN the Devonthink app on my computer I did buy the Devonsphere Express app but it seems that that app is finding less than Devonthink itself. I am still working on this issue - both with Apple and the developer of Launchbar 6.
